Abstract

This study aims to improve students' mathematics learning outcomes on the subject of a system of two-variable linear equations in class X SMA HKBP Butar Pagaran Academic Year 2017/2018. This type of research is Classroom Action Research. The subjects in this study were 22 class X students of HKBP Butar Pagaran Private High School in the 2017/2018 Academic Year. The object of this study is to improve mathematics learning outcomes on the subject of a two-variable system of linear equations. The tools for collecting data are initial tests, learning achievement tests I, learning achievement tests II, observations and interviews. Before the test was used in this study, it was first tried out to see the validity of each item and the reliability of the test. Data analysis was carried out in several stages, namely reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The criteria for student mathematics learning outcomes are based on individual and classical learning outcomes. This research consisted of two cycles, namely cycle I and cycle II. Before the action was taken in cycle I, the researcher gave the students an initial test and at the end of cycle I and cycle II they were given a learning achievement test I and a learning achievement test II. Before being given the action, the average pre-test in class X was 34.50 with 0% classical completeness. After being given action I using the Missouri Mathematics Project (MMP) learning model, the average test score for learning outcomes I increased to 56.82 with classical completeness of 68.18%. This shows an increase in classical completeness of 68.18% and an average increase of 22.32 from the initial test carried out. Then after giving action II, the average score of students' learning outcomes test II was 71.82 with classical completeness of 86.36%, which means that there was an average increase of 15 and an increase in classical completeness of 18.18% from the results of cycle I The results of teacher and student observations were categorized in the very good category where the results of observations of teacher activities obtained an average value of 3.6 and observations of student activities obtained an average value of 3.5. From the results of observations, it can be seen that the implementation of learning runs smoothly. Based on the results of this study it can be concluded that learning with the Missouri Mathematics Project (MMP) model on the subject of a system of linear equations of two variables can improve student learning outcomes and can be used as an alternative learning.
