Abstract

This study aims to determine differences in student learning outcomes taught using the Demonstration method and the Question and Answer method on the subject of Relations and Functions in class VIII of HKBP Sipahutar Private Middle School in the 2018/2019 Academic Year. The population of this study were all students of class VIII SMP HKBP Sipahutar as many as 143 people with a total sample of 72 people obtained by random sampling through a lottery. Data analysis to test the hypothesis with the t-test statistical formula. The type of research used is experimental research. Of the two sample groups, one experimental group was assigned, namely class VIII3 and one control group, namely class VIII4. Both groups were given the same instrument for pre-test and post-test. Where the instrument consists of 10 questions which were first tested to determine validity, reliability, level of difficulty. Based on the results of the pre-test value data, it was found that the two groups of students had the same initial abilities, while the results of the post-test data stated that the learning outcomes of the two sample groups were different. After the requirements test was carried out, namely the normality test with the Liliefors test and the homogeneity test with the variance comparison test, the hypothesis was tested with the t test and the significance level α = 0.05 obtained thit = 0.92 and ttab = 2.385, it turns out that thit > ttab, thit is out of acceptance Ho then Ho is rejected, meaning that there are differences in the learning outcomes of students who are taught using the Demonstration method and the Question and Answer method on relations and function material in class VIII of HKBP Sipahutar Private Middle School.
